Welcome
to the website for the Shropshire Area of The Ramblers, Britain's biggest charity working to promote walking and to improve conditions for all walkers.
Shropshire Ramblers Groups
There are six Ramblers Groups in Shropshire whose main activity is to offer a wide selection of friendly and sociable walks.
All groups welcome Non members (including visitors to the area) and will ask you to become a member after a couple of walks. For forthcoming walks of all groups see our Walks programme
Some of our groups also list their walks on the national Ramblers web site ‘Walksfinder’. This also gives details of walks within Shropshire organised by other Ramblers Groups not based in Shropshire.
Groups also offer:
Social Events
Footpath Maintenance and preservation
Training in walk leading, First aid etc.
Local campaigns
Rail Rambles provide a different way of walking, especially for those who prefer to use public transport.
Other walking groups affiliate to the Ramblers. Some of these are included on our Walks programme
Countywide Organisation and activities
We campaign to get blocked footpaths opened. To find out more see Footpath Campaigning.
Shropshire Area also has a co-ordinating role in local and national campaigns, and organises exhibitions to publicise the work of Ramblers – for more information on Area organisation and activities see Area Information
Walking Independently
For information to help you walk independently in Shropshire see Walking in Shropshire. This includes information about public transport, where you can park, a description of the main walking areas and long distance routes in Shropshire.
For information on particular problems on routes see footpath news. Please do to tell us if you encounter problems with Rights of Way while walking in Shropshire.
