Please make sure that you are fit enough to undertake the walk you intend to join. See the grading system below. However, any walk grading system is very subjective – so much depends on your fitness & experience of country walking. If in doubt, please check with the walk leader in advance. Most walks are off road in rural areas.
INSURANCE:
Whilst all leaders on Ramblers led walks carry third party liability insurance,
it is important to note that all sporting & leisure activities have inherent hazards
associated with them & rambling is no exception. Safety of participants in group
walks is always the paramount concern, however, accidents will occasionally occur.
It is important therefore, that when entering into the activity, each participant
appreciates that they have a responsibility to identify the hazards associated with
the activity and take all reasonable steps to eliminate or minimise the potential
for an accident to arise.
Disclaimer: ”The Ramblers” does not accept responsibility for any loss or injury
sustained on these walks.
TRAVEL TO WALKS:
FOOD & DRINK:
FOOTWEAR & CLOTHING:
DOGS:
Some groups encourage car sharing (both to help the environment and because parking is
often limited). See groups for more details
Most full day and some shorter walks require
a picnic lunch. Most also have a mid morning snack stop. Please ensure you are carrying
sufficient food & drink.
Please have suitable footwear (normally boots) and clothing
for the walk you intend to join.
Leaders may refuse to accept participants who, in
their opinion, are inadequately clothed or equipped.
See groups for which groups allow
dogs.
Walk Grades
The Ramblers National Grading system for walks is as follows:
Easy: Suitable for anyone who does not have a mobility difficulty or a specific health problem or is seriously unfit. Suitable for pushchairs if they can be lifted over occasional obstructions. Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn.
Leisurely: Suitable for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural paths. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are recommended.
Moderate: Suitable for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness. May include some steep paths and open country, and may be at a brisk pace. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential.
Strenuous: Suitable for experienced country walkers with an above average fitness level. May include hills and rough country, and may be at a brisk pace. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential. People in doubt about their fitness are advised to contact the organiser or leader in advance.
Some groups use their own grading system which take other factors into account, degree of ascent etc. See group information for more details
We add a + to some walk grades to indicate that the walk is slightly above this description
